funky font rendering in Chrome

check the C in Connected:

This only happens on very first page load in Chrome. It goes away if I refresh the page. Doesn't happen in Firefox.

Happens in release version of xterm.js and beta.

Any idea on how to prevent it?

Is the font installed as system font or provided as web font? Looks pretty much like a webfont loading issue to me, for more context see https://github.com/xtermjs/xterm.js/blob/085a2750387f8c446b9443d2d0a9d7187e38db9b/addons/addon-web-fonts/README.md.
If you are in doubt how to get this corrected, maybe try using that addon (not yet released though, you prolly have to build it yourself).
