Java launch code is modernized

The Build Validation Scripts currently launch external java processes using code that was generated by an older version of the Gradle Application Plugin. Since that part of the scripts were first written, the Gradle Application Plugin has been updated to generate much better launch code. We should update the Build Validation Scripts to use the updated code to invoke external java processes.
